'We Dream of Total Victory' - Edo Queens Ready For WAFU-B Opener

Edo Queens will begin their campaign in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers when they face Nigerien side AS Garde Nationale (AS GNN) in their Group B opener on Monday, August 24, 2026, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions arrived in Burkina Faso with ambitions of securing the WAFU-B title and qualifying for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens, the 2024 WAFU-B champions, have expressed confidence ahead of the tournament, with assistant coach Gabriel Benson insisting that the team is fully prepared for the challenge.

Speaking after the team’s training session on Sunday, Benson assured Edo State supporters and Nigerians that the players are ready to give their best and begin the competition on a winning note.

“The girls are ready and good to go. They know the opportunity before them and also understand that they are representing Edo State and Nigeria at large,” Benson said.

“We are ready to fight until the end to win our first game and ultimately the WAFU-B trophy. We are here for real business. We are playing our first match against AS Garde Nationale of Niger, and we are dreaming of nothing but total victory.”

Benson also revealed that the team arrived in Burkina Faso early enough to acclimatise to the local conditions, while acknowledging the difference in weather between the two countries.

“We came here on time and our players are acclimatising well. Concerning the weather, there is a little difference. I found out that this place is hotter than Nigeria, but we are doing everything necessary to ensure that the players have a smooth run in this WAFU-B playoff,” he added.

The Edo Queens assistant coach acknowledged the strength of Group B, which includes several former champions, but maintained that the Nigerian representatives are not intimidated by the pedigree of their opponents.

“We have come here to play against anybody. We know the group we are in has three former champions, but we are not scared. It is a tough group, no doubt.

“AS Garde Nationale is the only team new to us in Group B. We are prepared and will take it one game at a time,” Benson stated.

Edo Queens will be hoping to make a strong start against AS GNN as they pursue another WAFU-B title and a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
