2025 AFCON: NFF Reacts To Federal Government Intervention Fund For Super Eagles

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria and key sports stakeholders for their support of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking exclusively to BSN Sports in Abuja on Friday, NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi said all necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a successful tournament outing for the national team, stressing that the players are adequately catered for.

According to Sanusi, the intervention of the Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), has played a significant role in stabilising the Super Eagles’ preparations.

“Everything has been put in place for a successful AFCON campaign,” Sanusi told BSN Sports.

 “The players have arrived in Morocco well kitted and are not lacking anything. The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, the President and Board members of the NFF, as well as the media and Nigerians at large, have all contributed positively in encouraging the Super Eagles to succeed at AFCON 2025.

“We must appreciate everyone involved and thank the Federal Government for standing by the national teams through financial support.”

However, when asked to confirm whether the Federal Government has fully met its financial obligations to the team ahead of the tournament, Sanusi declined to comment.

Nigeria, three-time African champions and runners-up at the 2023 AFCON, have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.

The Super Eagles will open their campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, before facing Tunisia on December 27. Their final group match will be against Uganda on December 31, 2025.

The team arrived in Fez, Morocco, on Thursday, following a narrow 2–1 defeat to Egypt in a pre-tournament friendly played at the Cairo International Stadium earlier in the week.
