2025 AFCON: NFF Technical Committee Set Semifinal Target For Chelle
By BSN Sports
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee has set what it calls a “realistic” target for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, following a meeting with head coach Eric Chelle on Monday in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Nigeria, three-time African champions, have been placed in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania and Uganda, and will begin their campaign on December 23 against Tanzania.
According to officials present at the meeting, the committee has established a semifinal finish as the minimum expectation for Chelle and his squad.
“We’re not the favourites to win the AFCON,” a committee member told SCORENigeria. “The favourites will be hosts Morocco, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire. So as always, we have set a realistic target of reaching the semifinal for coach Eric Chelle and the Super Eagles.”
Another committee member emphasized that the team is undergoing a rebuilding phase following the failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“It’s a rebuilding process and getting to the semifinal will be good,” he said. “That was the same target we set for the 2023 AFCON and we ended up reaching the final. It can happen again, but we don’t want to put the team under too much pressure, especially after the World Cup setback.”
