D’Tigress forward, Amy Okonkwo, has been crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Okonkwo was instrumental in Nigeria’s historic fifth consecutive title triumph, helping D’Tigress secure a 78-64 victory over Mali in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, on Sunday night.
The 28-year-old delivered an impressive performance in the final, posting 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.
Her back-to-back MVP win also makes her only the second Nigerian to achieve this feat at the Women’s AfroBasket, joining Mfon Udoka, who won the award in 2003 and 2005.
Throughout the tournament, Okonkwo averaged 14 points per game (7th overall), topped the three-point shooting charts with a 50% success rate, and ranked second in free-throw percentage at 87.5%.
