Super Eagles are set for a high-stakes encounter as they host Rwanda in a pivotal CAF Group C match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The match, scheduled for Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, could prove decisive for Nigeria’s qualification hopes. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM Nigerian time.

Currently fourth in Group C with seven points from six matches, Nigeria trails group leaders South Africa (13 points), while both Rwanda and Benin (8 points each) also sit above them. Only the top team in the group secures automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, while second place offers a lifeline through the playoff route.

The Super Eagles will draw confidence from their 2-0 victory over Rwanda earlier this year, thanks to a brace from star striker Victor Osimhen.

However, Nigeria’s overall campaign has been plagued by inconsistency, prompting concerns about their ability to deliver under pressure.

Head coach Eric Chelle, tasked with steadying the ship, has overseen a run of two wins and three draws in his tenure. He is expected to rely heavily on attacking talents like Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon to break down a disciplined Rwandan side.

Rwanda, under the leadership of Adel Amrouche, have shown resilience throughout the qualifiers, securing crucial points against Lesotho and pushing South Africa to the limit in a narrow defeat. While Nigeria holds the historical edge—unbeaten in their last three encounters with the Amavubi—Rwanda's structured and physical style could pose a significant threat.

With the pressure mounting and margins razor-thin, the Super Eagles have no room for error if they are to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
