2026 WÀFCONQ: Super Falcons Captain Looks Beyond Benin Republic

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has made it clear that the team’s ambitions go far beyond just defeating Benin Republic in the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking ahead of the crucial encounter, the Paris Saint-Germain forward emphasized that the team’s ultimate goal is to secure qualification for the continental showpiece and build momentum toward the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We’ve been working, as you can see, on some of our mistakes from the last match,” Ajibade said.

“We want to make sure that we win because it’s a journey, and we know what this particular game means to us. We need to seal the win so we can qualify for the next WAFCON and ultimately make it to the World Cup.”

Nigeria head into the return leg with confidence, having dominated the first leg, but Ajibade insisted the team is not taking anything for granted.

The semi-finalists of the 2026 WAFCON will automatically qualify to represent Africa at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, adding extra significance to every qualifying game for the record nine-time African champions.
