ABA Continues Nationwide Grassroots Basketball Coaching Clinic in Jalingo, Gombe

The Amateur Basketball Academies (ABA) will this weekend continue its nationwide grassroots basketball development programme with a one-day coaching clinic in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The ABA Board, led by its President, Deputy Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service, Aliyu Lucky Abubakar, is expected to arrive in Jalingo on Saturday to oversee the training of academy coaches as part of the association's ongoing capacity-building initiative.

The Jalingo clinic follows the successful completion of the "Team Work" coaching clinic held in Makurdi, Benue State, where 11 coaches from eight basketball academies participated in an intensive one-day training session.

Tagged "Drive," the Jalingo clinic is the fourth edition of ABA's nationwide coaching programme since its launch in June in Abuja. The initiative subsequently moved to Minna, Niger State, before arriving in Taraba.

Organised in collaboration with the Taraba State Basketball Association, the programme is designed to strengthen grassroots basketball development by identifying emerging talent, enhancing the capacity of academy coaches, and promoting sustainable player development across the country.

The clinic will provide participants with updates on the latest basketball rules, modern coaching techniques, tactical approaches, and international best practices aimed at improving the quality of coaching at the grassroots level.

Speaking ahead of the programme, ABA President Aliyu Lucky Abubakar said the initiative extends beyond grassroots talent discovery to include coaches' education, structured training systems, athlete mentorship, and long-term player development.

"ABA strongly believes that the future of Nigerian basketball begins at the grassroots level. We believe every community court can produce champions. We believe every trainer can become a transformational leader. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to dream through sports," Abubakar said.

Following the Jalingo programme, the ABA coaching team, comprising Coaches Daudu Adeka, Emmanuel Odah, Alex Ujoh, and Oyekan Oyedeji, will proceed to Gombe on Monday to continue the nationwide coaching clinic.
