AFCON 2025: Brys Accuses Eto’o Of Interference Over Cameroon Squad Selection
Sampson Adedeji
Former Cameroon head coach Marc Brys has launched another strong attack on Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o, accusing him of interfering in the selection of the Indomitable Lions squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Brys, who was dismissed just weeks before the start of the tournament scheduled to run from December 21 to January 18, claimed that Eto’o and not newly appointed coach David Pagou was responsible for drawing up the final list of players.
The Belgian coach criticised the exclusion of key stars, including Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana and long-time captain Vincent Aboubakar, describing their omission as unfair and damaging to Cameroon’s chances at the competition.
Aboubakar is the second-highest scorer in the history of the national team with 45 goals in 116 appearances.
“Eto’o has excluded important players, leaders, because it’s obviously him who made this list. How can you go and compete in such a tournament without a world-class goalkeeper, or without Aboubakar? These are players who have character, who stand up to the president,” Brys said in an interview with Afrik-Foot.
Brys went further by criticising Eto’o’s personality, accusing the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker of being narcissistic.
“All of this is incredible, but it doesn’t surprise me coming from someone who is narcissistic and thinks he’s the most intelligent,” he added.
