The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will trial a new match ball design during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations encounter between Algeria and DR Congo scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
CAF confirmed that the test will take place during the Group-stage fixture, as part of ongoing efforts to improve equipment standards and align with modern innovations in football technology.
The Algeria–DR Congo match will provide CAF with an opportunity to assess the ball’s performance under competitive tournament conditions, including factors such as control, movement, durability, and overall player response.
Officials are expected to gather feedback from match officials and players after the game, with the outcome of the test potentially influencing the ball’s future use in CAF competitions.
AFCON 2025 continues to serve as a platform for innovation, as Africa’s football governing body seeks to enhance the quality and global appeal of its flagship tournament.
