AFCON 2025 Fallout: CAF Yet To Suspend Senegal Coach
Sampson Adedeji
Contrary to reports circulating in some sections of the media, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has yet to suspend Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The clarification follows widespread claims that disciplinary action had already been taken against Thiaw over his conduct during the AFCON 2025 final against Morocco.
During the high-profile encounter, the Senegalese coach instructed his players to leave the pitch in protest after a controversial penalty was awarded against his side.
The players eventually returned to the field, the match was completed, and Senegal went on to win the trophy.
However, Thiaw’s actions sparked strong reactions across the football community, drawing condemnation from both FIFA and CAF, with many calling for sanctions.
An update from CAF headquarters in Cairo has now confirmed that no decision has been taken on the matter. According to CAF officials, the Executive and Disciplinary Committees are yet to convene to deliberate on the incident.
As a result, no suspension or formal sanction has been imposed on the Senegal coach at this time, with CAF expected to communicate its decision after the relevant committees have met and reviewed the case.
