The future of Egypt national team head coach Hossam Hassan is hanging in the balance following the Pharaohs’ exit from the title race at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) is reportedly considering the termination of the contracts of Hossam Hassan and his assistant, Ibrahim Hassan, regardless of the outcome of Egypt’s third-place playoff clash against Nigeria.
Sources close to the federation revealed that Hassan’s conduct during Friday’s press conference, particularly his comments directed at host nation Morocco, has angered top officials within the EFA.
The remarks are understood to have caused embarrassment to the federation and raised concerns about professionalism and diplomatic relations.
As a result, the EFA is weighing the option of formally questioning both Hossam Hassan and his twin brother, Ibrahim, over their public statements, which were interpreted as allusions to Morocco and the general organization of the tournament.
Although Egypt still have a chance to finish the competition on a positive note when they face Nigeria in the third-place playoff, insiders insist that the federation’s decision on the technical crew may already be independent of the match result.
Egypt lost 0–1 to Senegal in the semi-finals, while Nigeria were eliminated by hosts Morocco via a penalty shootout.
Both teams will now battle for bronze, but uncertainty continues to surround the future of the Egyptian coaching setup.
The EFA is expected to make a final decision after the conclusion of the tournament.
