AFCON 2026: CAS Set To Throw Out Super Eagles Group Opponent, Set Nov 17 For Judgement

The Guinean Football Federation (FEGUIFOOT) has announced that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will hold a hearing on November 17, 2025, in Lausanne, regarding their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying dispute with Tanzania, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

A verdict is expected shortly after the hearing 

FEGUIFOOT is being represented by the Belgium-based law firm Eleven & Law, known for its experience in international sports cases.

The Federation revealed that both parties have exchanged written arguments, allowing Guinea to present its case, which centers on alleged violations of CAF’s player eligibility regulations.

In line with CAS procedures, the case is being handled confidentially to ensure fairness and transparency. FEGUIFOOT stated that it has respected this confidentiality throughout the process.

Reaffirming its dedication to justice and integrity in African football, the Guinean Football Federation expressed confidence as it awaits the final decision.

Guinean Football Federation lodged a formal complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) alleging Tanzania fielded an ineligible player during their recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Guinea, who were edged out 1-0 by Tanzania in the final Group H match on Tuesday, failed to qualify for the continental tournament after finishing third with nibe points. 

Tanzania secured second place in the group with ten points, two off leaders DR Congo. 

Guinea claim that Tanzania fielded a player wearing jersey number 26, who entered the pitch in the 73rd minute, despite the number not being listed in the official CAF squad submission.

Moreover, the player’s jersey reportedly lacked a visible name, making it impossible to verify his identity.
