AFCON 2027: Hosting Under Threat Again As Uganda PM Demands Urgent Action

Uganda's preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have come under increasing scrutiny, with Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja expressing frustration over the slow pace of infrastructure development, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Prime Minister has reportedly demanded urgent progress on key projects, warning that delays could leave Uganda at risk of embarrassing co-hosts Kenya and Tanzania as the three East African nations prepare to stage the continental showpiece.

One of the major concerns remains the renovation of the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, where work is said to be progressing slowly despite an important Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection scheduled for August 31, 2026.

With just over a year before AFCON 2027 kicks off, Uganda is under pressure to accelerate construction and ensure its facilities meet CAF's hosting requirements ahead of the inspection.

The outcome of the visit is expected to play a key role in assessing the country's readiness to co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
