Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been placed in Pot 1 for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, following the release of the official seeding by the Confederation of African Football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The seeding, announced on Monday evening, positions Nigeria among the continent’s top-ranked teams ahead of the qualifying draw.
Other nations in Pot 1 include Morocco, Senegal, DR Congo, Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Cameroon, Mali, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.
Being in Pot 1 ensures the Super Eagles will avoid facing any of these heavyweights during the group stage of the qualifiers, potentially offering a more favourable path to qualification.
The remaining teams have been distributed across three other pots, which will determine the group pairings during the draw.
The draw ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19, as teams learn their opponents in the race for a place at the 2027 tournament.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda have already been confirmed as the joint hosts of the competition.
