AFCON Qualifiers: 10 African Nations To Host ‘Home’ Matches In Morocco
Sampson Adedeji
No fewer than 10 African national teams are set to play their “home” matches in Morocco during the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The development is due to the unavailability or lack of CAF approval for suitable stadiums in the respective countries to host international fixtures.
Morocco, which boasts several CAF-approved stadiums and facilities, has consequently emerged as a preferred venue for several teams seeking to fulfil their home-match obligations.
The arrangement will see the affected nations travel to Morocco for their qualifying fixtures, despite being designated as the home teams.
The situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by several African countries in meeting CAF’s stadium requirements, with infrastructure and venue certification remaining key issues ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The 2027 AFCON qualifiers are expected to feature competitive fixtures across the continent as national teams battle for places at the tournament, which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
