AFCON Update: CAF Confirms Prize Money After Increment

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the revised prize money structure for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Following the recent increment, the total prize money for the tournament now stands at $35 million, a significant boost that underlines CAF’s commitment to rewarding excellence and enhancing the global value of African football.

Under the new structure, the champion of AFCON 2025 will earn $10 million, the highest prize in the history of the competition.

 The runner-up will receive $4 million, while the third- and fourth-placed teams will take home $2.5 million each.

Teams that reach the quarter-final stage will be rewarded with $1.3 million, while those eliminated in the Round of 16 will earn $800,000. CAF has also ensured financial rewards for teams exiting at the group stage, with third-placed teams receiving $700,000 and fourth-placed teams pocketing $500,000.

The increase in prize money reflects CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s vision of elevating African football, improving competitiveness among national teams, and providing better financial incentives to support football development across the continent.
