Abuja Military Barracks Youth Championship Reaches Decisive Stage With Finals Set

The stage is set for an exciting finish to the 2026 Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Abuja Military Barracks Youth Championship as teams booked their places in the semi-finals and finals across football, basketball and volleyball after an action-packed third day of competition on Wednesday, August 5 2026.

In the men's football event, Mogadishu Cantonment underlined their title credentials with a 2-1 victory over NAF Valley before sealing a convincing 3-0 win against Shittu Alao Barracks. Mambilla Barracks also impressed, recording two emphatic victories, defeating Shittu Alao 3-0 and NAF Valley 4-0.

Nigerian Navy Barracks edged NAF Base Bill Clinton 4-2, while General Azazi Barracks produced the biggest result of the day, thrashing NAF Base Bill Clinton 7-0. Lungi and Nigerian Navy Barracks settled for a 1-1 draw.

Attention now shifts to Thursday's football semi-finals at the Aguiyi Ironsi Sports Complex, where Lungi will face Mogadishu Cantonment, while Mambilla takes on General Azazi for a place in the final.

The basketball event also produced thrilling encounters. In the men's category, Nigerian Navy Base Abuja defeated Shittu Alao Barracks 56-21, while Lungi overcame Mogadishu Cantonment 25-16 in the preliminary matches.

The semi-finals saw Navy Base Abuja defeat Mogadishu 44-32 to reach the final, where they will face Lungi, who cruised past NAF Valley 39-17.

In the women's competition, General Azazi booked a place in the final after defeating Mambilla 33-16, while NAF Valley overwhelmed Lungi 55-15 to set up a title clash between both sides. Mambilla and Lungi will contest the third-place match.

Volleyball was equally competitive, with Mogadishu Cantonment defeating Nigerian Navy Barracks 2-1 in the men's semi-final, while Lungi swept aside Mambilla 2-0 to secure a place in the championship match.

The women's final will also feature Mogadishu and Lungi after both teams recorded straight-set victories over Nigerian Navy Barracks and General Azazi respectively.

With places in the finals now confirmed, anticipation is building ahead of Thursday's decisive matches as barracks across the Federal Capital Territory battle for supremacy in one of the military's biggest youth sporting competitions.
