African Men’s Volleyball Championship: CAVB Scraps Classification Matches

The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) has announced the cancellation of classification matches for positions 17–32 at the upcoming 47th Men’s African Club Championship scheduled to hold in Kigali from April 22 to May 3, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The decision, confirmed on Wednesday via an official press release, follows the expansion of the tournament to a 32-team format. 

The enlarged structure was introduced to accommodate a record 37 participating clubs, significantly above the competition’s usual limit of fewer than 25 teams.

Under the revised arrangement, matches to determine final rankings for lower positions will no longer be played, streamlining the competition schedule.

The Confederation of African Volleyball noted that the adjustment was made to ensure better tournament management and logistical efficiency amid the increased number of entrants.

Nigeria will be represented by a single club at the championship, with Nigerian Customs set to compete among the participating sides as the country’s sole representative.
