African Women's Basketball League 2025: First Bank’s Campaign Ends with 10th-Place Finish

Nigeria’s representatives, First Bank Basketball Club, will end their campaign at the 2025 Africa Women Basketball League (AWBL) in 10th place as the competition concludes on Saturday in Egypt.

Nicknamed the Elephants Girls, the Lagos-based side endured a challenging group-stage campaign, losing their opening two matches to Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

First Bank showed resilience in their final group fixture, edging FAP of Cameroon to record their only win of the tournament. However, the victory proved insufficient to secure a place in the knockout rounds.

In the subsequent classification match, FAP responded with a 48–42 win over the Nigerian champions, avenging their earlier defeat and consigning First Bank to a 10th-place finish in the final standings.

Meanwhile, defending champions Ferroviario de Maputo will face host club Al Ahly Sporting Club in the final later today, as the 2025 AWBL reaches its conclusion in Egypt.
