African Youth Chess Championship: Deborah Quickpen Clinches Silver, Earns WFM Title

Nigeria’s emerging chess prodigy, Deborah Quickpen, rounded off the year on a high note after claiming the silver medal at the African Youth Chess Championship (AYCC) in Zimbabwe, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 

Quickpen finished as first runner-up overall in a highly competitive field, a performance that also earned her the prestigious Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title, officially conferred by the world chess governing body, FIDE.

The achievement marks a significant milestone in the young star’s career and further underlines Nigeria’s growing presence on the continental chess stage.

Her consistent displays throughout the championship showcased composure, tactical awareness and maturity beyond her years.

The Nigeria Chess Federation has been commended for its continued support and development of young talents, a factor that has played a key role in Deborah Quickpen’s rise.
