Super Eagles defender Chidozie Awaziem has opened up on the reasons behind his return to French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 28-year-old Nigerian international, who previously had a loan stint with the club during the 2017–2018 season, has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at Stade de la Beaujoire until June 2028.

Awaziem recently wrapped up a spell in the MLS, where he made 20 appearances for the Rapids this season starting every match and recorded an assist in a 3–2 win over San Diego FC on April 12.

His time in the U.S. also included a brief stay at FC Cincinnati, where he provided two assists in seven starts last season.

Speaking on his return to France, Awaziem described the decision as straightforward.

“When the opportunity came, I didn’t hesitate for a second to come back, because for me, Nantes is like home,” he said.

“The people are wonderful, the club is great, and I was really looking forward to being in this environment again.”

He added: “From a sporting perspective, I want to do everything I can to help the club achieve its goals win trophies, compete at the highest level against the best teams, and bring FC Nantes back to the top.”
