Borno Sports Commissioner Rejects Proposed ₦2m Monthly Wage For NPFL Players

Borno State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Sainna Buba, has rejected the proposed ₦2 million monthly minimum wage for players in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), describing the plan as unrealistic given the current financial realities facing many clubs, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Buba stated that several NPFL clubs, particularly those funded by state governments, are already struggling with financial constraints and would find it difficult to sustain such a wage structure.

The commissioner urged the NPFL leadership to prioritise improving the league's revenue generation rather than introducing policies that could place additional financial burdens on clubs.

He also called on the league body to engage all relevant stakeholders, including club owners and state governments, before implementing any major policy changes affecting player welfare.

According to Buba, broad consultations and a sustainable financial model are essential to ensure any wage review benefits both players and clubs without threatening the stability of the league.
