The Nigerian Football Referees Association (NFRA) has congratulated FIFA referee Yemisi Akintoye on her appointment as one of the match officials for the forthcoming Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Akintoye, who became a FIFA-badged referee in 2021, earned the appointment after successfully completing the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) medical, physical fitness and technical assessments.

Reacting to the development, NFRA President Sir Kelechi Mejuobi described the appointment as a significant achievement for both Akintoye and Nigerian refereeing.

He noted that the association remains committed to supporting its members in securing appointments to major continental and international competitions, adding that Akintoye's selection reflects the growing reputation of Nigerian referees within African football.

Before departing for WAFCON duty, Akintoye is also scheduled to officiate the Women's FA Cup final, further underlining her standing among the country's top referees.

The NFRA expressed confidence that she would represent Nigeria with distinction at the continental tournament while inspiring more female referees to pursue excellence in the profession.
