CAF Assures Guinea Of Security Ahead Of 2027 AFCON Qualifier Against South Africa

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reassured Guinea that adequate security measures will be in place for its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against South Africa following concerns raised by the Guinean Football Federation, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Guinea had formally approached CAF through the federation’s general secretariat, requesting security guarantees for the national team ahead of their opening match of the PAMOJA 2027 AFCON qualifiers, scheduled for September in South Africa.

The request came amid reports of xenophobic tensions and security concerns in parts of South Africa in recent months.

CAF acknowledged Guinea’s concerns and assured the federation that the safety of players, officials, and supporters remains a top priority.

“While we take into consideration the concerns raised in your letter, our current assessment reveals no level of risk that could compromise the smooth running of this match under satisfactory security conditions,” CAF stated in its response to the Guinean Football Federation.

The continental football body, however, confirmed that it would continue to closely monitor developments and would take necessary action should the security situation deteriorate.

“We will nevertheless continue to monitor the evolution of the situation with the utmost attention".

" If our assessments were to highlight a significant deterioration in the security environment, we would immediately inform our general management in order to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of all participants, in accordance with our regulations,” CAF added.

Guinea and South Africa are among the teams competing in the qualifiers for the 2027 AFCON tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
