CAF CL: AS FAR Take Control With 2-0 First-Leg Win Over RS Berkane
By Niyi Busari
AS FAR secured a crucial 2-0 victory over domestic rivals RS Berkane in the first leg of their CAF Champions League semifinal on Saturday, taking a significant step toward the final, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Playing in front of their home supporters in Rabat, the military side controlled much of the contest, dictating tempo and creating the more threatening opportunities throughout the match.
After a tightly contested first half, the breakthrough came in the 58th minute when Ahmed Hammoudan found the back of the net to give AS FAR a deserved lead. The hosts maintained their momentum and continued to press for a second goal to strengthen their advantage.
Substitute Khalid Ait Ouarkhane delivered that cushion late in the game, scoring in the 80th minute to double the lead and put AS FAR firmly in control of the tie.
The result leaves RS Berkane with a significant challenge ahead of the return leg on home soil next weekend, where they will need to overturn a two-goal deficit to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
In the other semifinal, Espérance de Tunis are set to face Mamelodi Sundowns, with the first leg scheduled to take place in Tunis on Sunday.
