CAF Secretary General Storms Ghana, Urges Infrastructure Upgrade

The General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Samson Adamu, has called on Ghana to accelerate improvements in its sporting infrastructure as the country eyes the hosting of major continental tournaments, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Adamu, who was in Ghana as part of CAF’s ongoing assessment and engagement with member associations, stressed that modern, functional, and CAF-compliant facilities remain a critical requirement for any nation seeking to host flagship competitions such as the Africa Cup of Nations and inter-club championships.

He acknowledged Ghana’s rich football heritage and its strategic ambition to return to the forefront of continental hosting, but noted that infrastructure gaps must be urgently addressed to meet CAF’s evolving standards.

“Ghana has always been a key football nation in Africa with a strong legacy,” Adamu said. 

“However, to host top-tier CAF competitions, there must be significant investment in stadiums, training facilities, and supporting infrastructure.”

The CAF chief further emphasized that the governing body is committed to supporting member associations through advisory and technical frameworks but maintained that the responsibility for execution lies with national authorities.

Ghana has in recent months renewed its push to host major tournaments, positioning itself as a viable destination following past successes. However, concerns over stadium conditions and maintenance have remained a recurring issue.

Adamu’s visit is seen as part of CAF’s broader strategy to ensure that prospective host nations align with international best practices, particularly in areas such as pitch quality, safety standards, broadcasting infrastructure, and fan experience.

With competition among African nations to host marquee events intensifying, Ghana’s response to CAF’s recommendations could prove decisive in determining its chances of securing future tournaments.
