CAFCL: Finidi Reveals Next Steps, Hails Players
Sampson Adedeji
Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has praised his players for their commitment and resilience following their qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Pride of Rivers secured their place in the next round after overcoming Mozambique’s Black Bulls with a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Speaking after the tense encounter, Finidi expressed satisfaction with the team’s effort and highlighted the importance of the achievement.
“I am quite happy for the victory and the hard-fought battle. Yes, to have qualified is great for everybody here. We have been looking forward to this, and it has happened. Personally, it is an achievement to get to this stage, and going forward, we will see how we can compete in the group stages.”
The former Super Eagles winger also shared his thoughts on what lies ahead for the team, hinting at possible reinforcements before the group stage begins.
“We will see the draws and take each game as they come. We know how difficult this tournament is, so we will add one or two players to the squad. But for now, we’ll enjoy this victory and take each game at a time. We could have won in Mozambique because we created enough chances, but it didn’t happen. Fortunately, we scored three at home, and it’s a well-deserved qualification.”
Rivers United’s qualification marks a significant moment for Nigerian football, as Lobi Stars were the last Nigerian side to feature in the CAF Champions League group stage during the 2018/19 season.
