CAFCL: Santos, Shalulile Strike Ends Remo Stars’ Hope

By Sampson Adedeji

Remo Stars’ hopes of salvaging pride in the CAF Champions League were dashed on Sunday following another defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in Pretoria, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Nigerian side came into the second leg of the second preliminary round with a mountain to climb after suffering a 5-1 loss at home in the first leg. Despite their determination to put up a better fight, the experience and quality of the South African champions proved too much to handle.

First-half goals from Nuno Santos and Peter Shalulile sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for Sundowns, completing a 7-1 aggregate victory over the Sky Blue Stars.

With the result, Remo Stars bow out of the competition, while Mamelodi Sundowns advance to the lucrative group stage of the CAF Champions League.
