CDS Southwest Unity Basketball: Oluyole Warriors, UI, Hoops & Reads Among Day 1 Winners

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Southwest Unity Basketball Championship tipped off on a high note at the Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, with six fiercely contested matchups marking the opening day, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In the headline fixture, Oyo State’s Oluyole Warriors outclassed the Ogun Rockets 73-58 in their Group B opener. The Warriors controlled the tempo throughout the game, showcasing superior ball movement and defensive organization to secure a comfortable win.

Elsewhere, Delta Force pulled off a dramatic comeback victory over Osun United, winning 50-44. Osun United came out blazing, leading the first quarter 13-12 and extending their advantage to 14-7 in the second, heading into halftime with an 8-point cushion. However, Delta Force roared back in the second half with a dominant defensive effort and improved scoring to seal the win.

In another standout performance, Police Baton delivered a commanding 67-47 win over Dodan Warriors, asserting control from the opening tip and maintaining their lead throughout.

The University of Ibadan produced the most emphatic win of the day, thrashing Sports Nation 81-55. The Ibadan side took a 22-12 lead in the first quarter and maintained pressure across all four quarters. Despite a spirited second-quarter response by Sports Nation (16-17), UI dominated the second half with quarter scores of 23-12 and 20-14.

In the fifth match of the day, Edo Beads overpowered Ondo Riders 61-42 in a one-sided affair, while Hoops and Reads completed the day with a convincing 79-60 win over Ekiti Foundations. The Lagos-based side exploded out of the gate with a 28-8 first-quarter advantage and maintained control through all four periods.
