CHAN 2024: Madagascar Defeat Sudan, Reach Historic First Final
Sampson Adedeji
Madagascar have secured a place in their first-ever African Nations Championship (CHAN) final after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sudan in Tuesday’s semi-final at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The breakthrough came deep into extra time when substitute Toky Rakotondraibe struck in the 116th minute, sealing a dramatic win for the Barea and sparking jubilant celebrations.
With the result, Madagascar march on to Saturday’s grand finale in Nairobi, where they will battle either Morocco or Senegal for the coveted title.
This historic achievement further underlines Madagascar’s rapid rise in African football. After clinching bronze on their debut in 2022, they are now set to compete for gold—becoming the first island nation to reach a CAF senior competition final.
