Assistant coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team, Daniel Ogunmodede, has declared that the team’s mission at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) is to win the trophy, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ogunmodede, who guided Remo Stars to a league title before joining the national setup, emphasized that the players are fully focused on achieving glory.

“We’ve tasted third, we’ve tasted silver. Now we need to go for gold,” Ogunmodede told ESPN.

“We want to go for the gold.” He also shared how veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali motivated the squad.

“A few months ago, during training, Rabiu Ali joked with the players, saying we’ve finished third before in this competition, we’ve finished second before, but this time we must aim for first. That really struck me because it shows how seriously the players are taking this.”

Nigeria has been drawn in Group D alongside defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. Their first game will be against Senegal at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar.

“Of course, Senegal are defending champions, so they’ll be eager to defend their title. But we’re ready to give them a very good fight,” Ogunmodede assured.

The 2024 CHAN, featuring only players based in their domestic leagues, will run from August 2–30 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
