Senegal have been hit with a significant setback ahead of their opening match against Nigeria at the 2024 African Nations Championship, as first-choice goalkeeper Idris Ndiaye has been ruled out due to injury, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Ndiaye, who sustained the injury during the Senegal Cup final, failed to recover in time for the tournament. The shot-stopper played a crucial role in Generation Foot’s 1-0 triumph over Jaraaf Dakar in that final.

Head coach Souleymane Diallo has responded by handing a late call-up to Cheikh Lô Ndoye, who will replace Ndiaye. Ndoye is expected to join the squad in Zanzibar on Monday, just a day before their opening fixture.

The defending champions will take on Nigeria at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar next Tuesday.
