Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has acknowledged Nigeria’s quality despite his side’s emphatic 4-0 victory over the home-based Super Eagles, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The North Africans’ win moved them closer to the knockout stages, but Appiah admitted he hadn’t anticipated such a wide margin.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Ghanaian tactician revealed that his team had prepared for a challenging encounter.

“We knew it would be a tough game, especially in the first 20 minutes. We had to soak up Nigeria’s early pressure and then hit them on the counter. Our performance was much improved compared to the game against Congo,” he said.

Appiah added that while he believed Sudan could edge Nigeria, the 4-0 scoreline came as a surprise.

“I wasn’t expecting that result. The Nigerian team isn’t bad at all they just need some tactical adjustments.”

Nigeria will now face Congo in their final Group D fixture, while Sudan meet Senegal.
