CHAN 2025: Super Eagles B Target Victory in Second Friendly Against Zanzibar

The Super Eagles B, will go in search of a morale-boosting win when they take on hosts Zanzibar in the second of two preparatory friendlies ahead of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN), which begins this Saturday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The second encounter is scheduled for Thursday at the Mau Stadium in Zanzibar City — the same venue where both sides played out a goalless draw in Monday’s first fixture. Despite dominating possession and creating multiple scoring opportunities, Nigeria were unable to break through a disciplined Zanzibar defense.

The 2018 CHAN silver medalists and 2014 bronze winners impressed in phases during the first match, with standout performances from Adedayo Olamilekan, Hadi Haruna, Sikiru Alimi, and Harrison Tochukwu. Goalkeeper Ozoemena Ani also kept a clean sheet, supported by a core lineup that included captain Nduka Junior, Leonard Ngenge, Abdulrafiu Taiwo, Sodiq Ismaila, Ijoma Anthony, Harrison Ozondu, Akanni Qudus, Taofeek Otaniyi, Godwin Obaje, Jabbar Malik, and Shola Adelani.

Thursday’s fixture will serve as the final warm-up for the Eagles B before their Group D opener against defending champions Senegal on Saturday, August 9, at the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

The team will then take on Sudan on Tuesday, August 12, before wrapping up their group-stage campaign against Congo on Tuesday, August 19, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This year's expanded tournament will feature 19 participating nations across four groups, with Group D—the only group comprising four teams—being hosted across venues in Tanzania and Kenya. Other matches will be played at the Moi International Sports Centre and Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, as well as the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

The Super Eagles B are hoping for a strong showing in this year’s championship, building on past podium finishes and setting their sights firmly on continental glory.
