Canada Denies Ivory Coast Forward Visa, Rules Elye Wahi Out Of Team Travel

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed that striker Elye Wahi will not travel with the national team delegation to Canada after failing to secure the necessary entry authorization, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The development comes amid reports linking the forward to alleged match-fixing investigations, although the federation stressed that it has not received any official notification regarding legal or administrative proceedings involving the player.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the FIF said it had taken note of the various reports concerning Wahi but reiterated its support for the player during what it described as a particularly sensitive period.

“To date, the FIF has not been officially notified of any legal or administrative proceedings concerning him,” the federation stated.

The governing body also reaffirmed its confidence in the striker, describing him as an important member of the Ivorian national team.

Despite the federation's backing, Wahi will remain in the United States after the required administrative clearances for entry into Canada were not obtained in time.

“The necessary administrative authorizations for his entry into Canada have not yet been obtained. Elye Wahi will therefore remain in the United States while awaiting the team's return,” the statement added.

The federation further disclosed that it will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide official updates as more information becomes available.

Wahi's absence is expected to be a setback for the Elephants as they continue their campaign, with the player regarded as a key attacking option for the team.
