Charlton Athletic Sign Nigeria International Arthur Okonkwo On Loan
Sampson Adedeji
Charlton Athletic have announced the signing of Super Eagles goalkeeper goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan deal from Wrexham, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The 6ft 6in goalkeeper becomes the Addicks’ eighth signing of the summer as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.
Born in Camden, Okonkwo began his professional career at Arsenal, progressing through the club’s academy before signing his first senior contract with the Gunners in the summer of 2021.
The 24-year-old subsequently gained valuable experience during loan spells with Crewe Alexandra and Austrian side Sturm Graz, where he helped the club win the Austrian Cup.
Okonkwo later joined Wrexham, initially on loan, before completing a permanent move to the Welsh club in June 2024 after playing a key role in their promotion to League One.
The goalkeeper continued to impress at Wrexham, helping the Red Dragons secure back-to-back promotions with a second-place finish in the 2024/25 season before they narrowly missed out on the Championship play-offs last term.
At international level, Okonkwo has earned two caps for Nigeria.
He made his Super Eagles debut during their Unity Cup triumph at The Valley earlier this summer.
He will now spend the 2026/27 season with Charlton Athletic as he looks to continue his development and establish himself as one of Nigeria’s leading goalkeeping options.
