As Nigeria prepares for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has declared that winning the continental crown is the team’s ultimate goal, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking with CAFOnline ahead of the tournament, Chelle said the Super Eagles are determined to go all the way this time, emphasizing that their narrow defeat in the 2023 AFCON final in Côte d’Ivoire, where they lost 2–1 to the hosts, has only deepened their hunger and resolve.

“We want to win, of course,” Chelle said. “My personal goal is to win AFCON. I had a great experience in my first and last AFCON, and I believe Morocco will be another fantastic event. The players share the same ambition — we’ve been under pressure for every game since March.”

Nigeria, a three-time African champion, has been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia and Tanzania. The Super Eagles will open their campaign against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania on Tuesday, December 23, in a match that could set the tone for their title push.

Chelle expressed confidence in the depth and balance of his squad, which blends youthful talent and seasoned professionals performing across both domestic and European leagues. He underscored that success at AFCON 2025 will depend as much on mindset and discipline as on skill.

“We’ve built a strong team spirit since the last tournament. The loss in Abidjan brought the players closer and gave us new motivation. Every player understands the importance of focus and mental strength,” he noted.

For Chelle, Morocco 2025 represents more than a tournament — it’s a chance to write a new chapter in Nigeria’s illustrious football history. With millions of fans behind them and expectations soaring, the Super Eagles are aiming to return home as African champions for the fourth time.
