Chelle Unveils Coaching Team As Olympic Eagles Begin 2028 Olympic Preparations

Nigeria’s Olympic Eagles have stepped up preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle appointing Bright Osehai Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as his assistants, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Chelle, who also oversees the Nigeria U-23 side, said the appointment of the two young coaches was based on their impressive technical profiles and potential to contribute to the team’s quest for Olympic qualification.

The Malian tactician described Ozebagbe and Ortega as among the promising young coaches in Nigerian football, expressing his confidence in their ability to complement his technical plans for the Olympic Eagles.

Ozebagbe is currently the Technical Adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League side Ikorodu City, who narrowly missed out on continental qualification on the final day of last season.

Ortega, meanwhile, is a UEFA-licensed coach who received training through the Scottish Football Association. He is also part of the coaching staff of the Nigeria U-20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles.

Chelle has already presented his plans for the Olympic Eagles to the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), with the immediate objective of laying a solid foundation for the team’s qualification campaign.

The Olympic Eagles are expected to begin camping in Abuja ahead of their qualifying matches scheduled for November 2026.

The NSC has placed significant emphasis on Nigeria’s Olympic football programme, with both the men’s and women’s teams under its supervision. Beyond securing qualification for Los Angeles 2028, the sports authorities are targeting strong performances and podium finishes at the Games.

For the Olympic Eagles, the immediate priority will be navigating the qualification process, with Chelle expected to use the coming months to assemble a competitive squad capable of challenging for one of Africa’s Olympic berths.
