Coaches Applaud NPFL Board, NFF for Improved League Management

The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) has commended the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), led by Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye, as well as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), for what it described as significant administrative progress and structural stability in the ongoing 2025/26 season, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement released as the league approaches its final stretch, the NFCA noted that the successful completion of fixtures up to Matchday 35—with no outstanding games—reflects a new level of discipline and effective planning within the domestic top flight.

With only three matches remaining, the association highlighted the league’s adherence to a consistent calendar aligned with continental competitions, marking a notable improvement from previous seasons that were often disrupted by scheduling inconsistencies.

The coaches’ body also praised the NPFL board’s leadership in navigating operational and administrative challenges, emphasizing its ability to manage sensitive issues without compromising the integrity of the competition. According to the NFCA, this proactive approach has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth and credible season.

The role of the NFF was equally acknowledged, particularly in its oversight responsibilities and commitment to development initiatives. The NFCA pointed to ongoing efforts to improve coaching standards and enhance refereeing performance and welfare, noting that these interventions are already contributing to a higher quality of play across the league.

On the field, the association observed a marked increase in competitiveness. With both the title race and relegation battle still undecided, the season has delivered a balanced contest. The rise in away victories, the emergence of young talents, and a closely contested top scorers’ chart were cited as indicators of the league’s technical and tactical growth.

The NFCA stressed that these gains are the result of deliberate governance reforms, improved planning, and stronger collaboration among stakeholders. Enhanced matchday organization and growing confidence in officiating were also identified as key signs of progress.

Reaffirming its role as a critical technical stakeholder, the NFCA pledged its continued support for the NPFL board while recognizing the NFF’s contribution to the league’s advancement. It noted that sustained collaboration between administrative and technical bodies remains vital for long-term development.

Looking ahead, the association urged stakeholders to maintain focus on strategic priorities, including stricter enforcement of club infrastructure standards, expanded television and broadcast coverage, the adoption of a centralized football data system, and the effective use of end-of-season technical reports to guide policy and performance improvements.

The NFCA expressed optimism that, with sustained commitment, the NPFL can further narrow the gap with leading global leagues while consolidating its standing within African football.
