Blessing Orakwe's campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games came to an end on Wednesday after the Nigerian boxer suffered a narrow defeat in the women's 70kg quarterfinals in Glasgow, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Orakwe lost 3-2 by split decision to Australia's Lekeisha Pergoliti in a closely contested bout, missing out on a place in the semifinals.
The Nigerian delivered a spirited performance and convinced two of the five judges to score the contest in her favour.
However, Pergoliti edged the remaining three scorecards to secure victory and advance to the last four.
Despite the defeat, Orakwe's display highlighted her competitiveness against one of the tournament's top contenders, but it was not enough to keep Nigeria's hopes alive in the women's 70kg boxing event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
