Sampson Adedeji
The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has announced a one-day postponement of the 2026 Commonwealth Games national trials, citing travel disruptions caused by severe weather conditions affecting athletes coming in from the United States, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The adjustment was confirmed on Saturday by the Head of the AFN Media Committee, Maxwell Kumoye, just hours before the competition was originally scheduled to begin.
According to the revised schedule, the trials initially slated for Saturday, June 20 to Monday, June 22 will now take place from Sunday, June 21 to Tuesday, June 23.
The event will still be held at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria designated venue at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.
AFN officials said the decision was made to ensure full participation of eligible athletes and maintain competitive fairness in the selection process for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
