Concern Grows As Kidnappers Seek ₦20m Ransom For Nigerian Footballer’s Release

The family of Ihotu John Rebecca has appealed for urgent assistance following her abduction along the Benin Expressway, with kidnappers reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for her release, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Rebecca, who plays for Pacesetter Queens FC in the NWFL Premiership, was said to have been kidnapped while returning home. Details surrounding the incident remain limited, but family members say the abductors have established contact and issued a ransom demand.

Describing the situation as critical, the family called on well-meaning Nigerians and key stakeholders in the football community to intervene and assist in securing her safe release.

“This is a young woman who has dedicated her life to representing Nigerian women’s football at the highest domestic level,” a family representative said. “Right now, she is in danger, and time is of the essence.”

The appeal has been extended to football administrators, club executives, sponsors, government officials and members of the public who may be in a position to offer support.
