Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have been ranked third in the latest power rankings released ahead of the second round of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The second round of the qualifiers is scheduled to take place in Rades, Tunisia, and Dakar, Senegal, from August 27 to 30.
Despite a shaky start to the qualifying campaign, D’Tigers have returned to the reckoning with an encouraging 4-2 record, following their impressive 3-0 run in Luanda last month.
Head coach David Fizdale has also made significant changes to the Nigerian roster, bringing in players with experience at the highest level of basketball globally.
The changes appear to have strengthened the team, with D’Tigers now looking capable of competing strongly against their Group E opponents Cameroon, Tunisia and Guinea.
Nigeria will be hoping to maintain their improved form and secure positive results in the second round as they continue their push for a place at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
