DR Congo Unveils Strong Squad For Playoffs
Sampson Adedeji
The Leopards of DR Congo have announced a strong 25-man squad for their crucial CAF World Cup Qualifying play-off clash against Cameroon, set to take place in Rabat next month, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Head coach Sébastien Desabre has called up a mix of experienced internationals and in-form stars as the Central African giants aim to secure a spot in the final round of qualification.
Among the notable inclusions is prolific striker Fiston Mayele, who remains the only player in the squad currently plying his trade in Africa.
His performances for Pyramids FC have kept him firmly in Desabre’s plans. The squad also features several Europe-based players, including captain Chancel Mbemba, forward Yoane Wissa, and midfielder Gaël Kakuta, highlighting the quality and depth within the team.
DR Congo will face Cameroon in one of the two semi-final fixtures of the CAF World Cup Play-Offs, with Nigeria and Gabon contesting the other tie.
The matches will be played in Rabat, Morocco, with the winners advancing to the final for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Desabre expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness: “We have a balanced team with experience and hunger. The players know what is at stake, and we’ll give everything to make our nation proud.”
The Leopards will begin their training camp early November before traveling to Morocco ahead of the decisive encounter.
