DavNotch Open 2026: Ogunjobi and Abubakar Emerge Singles Champions

By Our Reporter

Defending champion Success Ogunjobi produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Etoro Bassey and successfully retain her women's singles title at the 2026 DavNotch Open Tennis Tournament on Sunday in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Playing at the tennis section of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Ogunjobi recovered from a set down to secure a hard-fought 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Bassey in a gripping final.

The triumph served as sweet revenge for Ogunjobi, who had suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Bassey in last weekend's 47th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open final. On that occasion, Bassey rallied from behind to deny Ogunjobi the title, making Sunday's victory all the more significant.

With both players consistently meeting in major domestic tournaments, their latest encounter further underlined what is fast becoming one of Nigerian tennis' most exciting rivalries.

In the men's singles final, Nigeria's top-ranked player, Canice Abua, fell short in his bid to claim back-to-back titles on the domestic circuit.

Fresh from his triumph at last weekend's CBN Open, Abua entered the DavNotch Open final as the favourite. However, Yusuf Abubakar produced an outstanding performance to upset the top seed, cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

The win earned Abubakar his maiden senior singles title and marked a major milestone in his budding career, while bringing an end to Abua's hopes of consecutive tournament victories.
