Death of President Forces Postponement of National Junior Championship

The Nigeria Aquatics Federation (NAqF) has announced the rescheduling of its “Swim to the Future” programme and the postponement of the Swim for Life National Junior Swimming Championship, citing recent developments and logistical considerations, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

In a statement released by the federation’s Media and Communications Department, the NAqF confirmed that “Swim to the Future,” originally scheduled for March 7, 2026, has been moved to a new date in April.

The decision follows the death of the federation’s president, Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, who passed away on March 7. Dunkwu, the sole sponsor of the initiative, was widely regarded as a strong advocate for youth development and the advancement of aquatic sports in Nigeria.

According to the federation, the event will now take place in April in honour of the late president, recognising his commitment and lasting contributions to the growth of the sport.

Meanwhile, the “Swim for Life” National Junior Swimming Championship, initially scheduled to hold in Lagos from April 2 to April 4, has been postponed to allow for improved logistical coordination and better organisation of the competition.

The federation said new dates for both events will be announced through its official communication channels.

NAqF also expressed appreciation to stakeholders, participating clubs, athletes, coaches, partners and members of the media for their understanding and continued support during the period of mourning within the aquatic sports community.
