 Nigeria’s Flamingos are facing a make-or-break moment at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, with head coach Bankole Olowookere insisting that victory must come before any thoughts of goal difference or qualification scenarios, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After suffering consecutive defeats to Canada and France, the Flamingos’ hopes of advancing to the knockout stage now rest on their final group game against Samoa, according to FIFA.com.

Speaking ahead of the decisive fixture, Olowookere emphasized the importance of focusing on the fundamentals.

 “Against Samoa, we must first focus on getting three points,” he said. 

“Then we can see how to improve the goal difference to give us a better chance to proceed. That’s what we’re working on.”

Despite the team’s disappointing start, the coach remains optimistic about their chances, noting that performances have improved with each outing.

 “We’ve shown better organization and confidence since the first match,” Olowookere added. “Now, it’s about translating that into results.”

Nigeria currently sit bottom of their group, but a big win over Samoa could see them progress as one of the best third-placed teams in the tournament.

For Olowookere and his young side, the objective is clear secure the win first, then fight for the goal margin that could keep their World Cup campaign alive.
