Drogba Falls in Love with Amala and Ewedu During Nigeria Visit

Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba has shared his reflections on his recent trip to Nigeria, praising the country’s rich culture, food, and hospitality while also expressing concerns about safety and public perception, particularly influenced by social media, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Speaking candidly during a media interaction after his visit, the former Chelsea striker described Nigeria as a country full of beauty and potential, especially highlighting his experience in Lagos.

 “If you only go by what’s said on social media, you’d think Nigeria is the worst country on earth,” Drogba remarked. “But man, Nigeria is beautiful—especially Lagos. I ate Amala and Ewedu, oh my God! That food was so delicious. I really enjoyed myself.”

Drogba’s visit was part of a broader humanitarian and outreach effort in West Africa, with plans to expand into several Nigerian states.

However, he revealed that a planned visit to Anambra State was canceled due to security concerns raised by his team and local advisors.

“We planned to visit Anambra because we heard there were issues with access to clean water, and we wanted to help. But then they told me I might be kidnapped, so we decided not to go,” he explained.

The football icon’s remarks have stirred mixed reactions online—some praising his honesty, others calling for more tact and sensitivity in discussing local challenges.

Drogba, a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Didier Drogba Foundation, has long championed causes related to health, education, and youth empowerment across Africa.

Despite the security concerns, he expressed hope for future collaborations in Nigeria and emphasized the importance of not letting online negativity overshadow the nation’s strengths.

 “Nigerian people are vibrant, passionate, and driven. You see it in the music, the fashion, the football—Nigeria has so much to offer,” he added.
