Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi opened his goalscoring account for Coventry City as they defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Awoniyi got Coventry off to a flying start, finding the back of the net early in the encounter to put his side ahead.

Jack Rudoni doubled Coventry’s advantage before Plymouth reduced the deficit through Oliver Irow midway through the first half.

Plymouth completed their comeback shortly after the restart, with Amaechi scoring in the 54th minute to make it 2-2. Coventry responded strongly, with Mason restoring their lead before Victor Torp added a fourth goal to complete a 4-2 victory.

The goal represents a positive start for Awoniyi, who is beginning a new chapter with Coventry City following his move to the club.
