Edo Queens Cruise Into WAFU-B Semifinals With Win Over ASEC Mimosas

Nigeria Women’s Football League champions Edo Queens FC secured their place in the semifinals of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers after defeating Ivorian champions ASEC Mimosas 3-1 in their second Group B match on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring for Edo Queens in the 23rd minute, giving the Nigerian champions an early advantage and boosting their confidence.

Doosuur Atume doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, sending Edo Queens into the halftime break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

ASEC Mimosas responded strongly after the restart and pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit and put pressure on the Nigerian side.

Edo Queens, however, remained composed and disciplined as Oluebube Umajiaku put the result beyond doubt in the 89th minute, finding the back of the net to complete a 3-1 victory.

The win guarantees Edo Queens a place in the semifinals with one group game still to play.

The Nigerian champions had opened their WAFU-B qualifying campaign on Monday with an emphatic 7-0 victory over AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic. With two wins from two matches, Edo Queens sit top of Group B with six points and 10 goals scored.

They will face Ghanaian side Ampem Darkoa Ladies in their final group-stage match.

Speaking after the match, Edo Queens’ stand-in technical manager, Kennedy Boboye, praised his players for maintaining their composure against a quality ASEC Mimosas side.

«“I’m happy that our girls stood their ground. We played against a good side with quality today, but thank God we were able to take our chances when they came.

“Congratulations to our girls; they made us proud, and we hope to achieve our purpose of coming to this tournament in Burkina Faso. We promised our people five over five before we left Benin City.”

Edo Queens will now turn their attention to their final Group B fixture as they continue their quest for the WAFU-B title and qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League proper.
